What to Expect

Once a consent form has been signed for our dentists to begin the procedure, they will start with the wisdom tooth extraction process. Depending on how many teeth require extraction, you can expect this procedure to take between 20 – 40 minutes to complete.

During this surgery, you will also be placed under local anaesthetic, however IV sedation is also available to those who would prefer it. In-chair extractions are known for their quicker recovery process, and you can also expect a post-operative call from Dr Teena following your treatment to discuss any concerns and see how you are feeling.

When Do Wisdom Teeth Need to be Removed?

Problematic wisdom teeth are often extracted either before or after they erupt, with this process usually occurring during a patient’s late teens or early twenties. A wisdom tooth may need removing if:

  • It is stuck in the jaw and can’t erupt properly
  • The tooth contains signs of decay
  • It is causing pain or discomfort
  • The tooth is blocked by other teeth and there is no room for it to erupt
  • The tooth is irritating the gum, causing pain and swelling
